Wellspring Family Services’ Early Learning Center, a licensed child care program, is seeking an experienced preschool teacher to work with children ages three to five years who are facing behavioral challenges.

We have one Cornerstone classroom currently, with a capacity of 7 children (right now enrollment is 4 high-energy boys!). Another classroom will open in the near future.

We are seeking an Assistant Preschool Teacher who will also advocate for the children.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• AA in Early Childhood Education
• Three or more years of experience in a child care setting working with children, ages one to five years, including one year of independent classroom management
• Knowledge of child development principles
• Experience working with low income people and a diverse population including people of color
• Awareness of and sensitivity toward different ethnic and cultural backgrounds
• Experience working with preschool age children who exhibit challenging behaviors
• Experience working with children with special needs
• Experience directing and guiding volunteers
Within 30 days of hire, we’ll assist you with the Food Handler’s Card, First Aid and Child / Infant CPR Certification, AIDS/HIV and Blood Borne Pathogens Training, TB Test, and Viewing of the CPS Training video.

We will also conduct Washington State Patrol and DEL background checks, eVerify, and Verification of ECE credential.

Required skills and qualifications:

• Evidence of completion of a minimum of 20 hours of Basic STARS training, as well as completion of the annual 10 hours of STARS training requirement

• A commitment to continued professional development, including administrative/supervisory/management classes and trainings as required by various regulatory agencies

• At least three years experience working with school age/pre-school children

• At least one year experience at the management/supervisory level in record maintenance, financial management and staff/child/parent communication

• At least one year experience having demonstrated knowledge and competency in behavior management and activity planning/coordinating

• Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information appropriately

• Strong communication skills, with proven ability to communicate with children and adults in a positive and proactive manner

• Ability to create versatile and varied age-appropriate activities for children of different ages and developmental stages

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

• Bilingual in English and another language is very desirable
• Experience working in a non-profit organization, and a B.A. degree in a related field.
