Family Advocate
at Olympic ESD 114 in Port Orchard, WA
Job Summary:
Work as part of the program and the site’s direct services team in developing partnerships with families by ensuring full enrollment, providing support, facilitating parent involvement activities, and training for Head Start/ECEAP families.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Ensure site is fully enrolled.
2. Work in partnership with Health Advocates to ensure family needs are addressed and provided with follow up throughout the year.
3. Work with families to develop a partnership, assist family with goals, and encourage further understanding of their child's development.
4. Participate in all family staffings, center staff meetings, and direct services team meetings.
5. Plan and participate in scheduled family visits and other frequent contacts with families.
6. Work as part of a Direct Service Team to respond to families' emergent needs.
7. Encourage and support parent involvement and leadership in the classroom, program, and the community.
8. Provide referrals to appropriate community resources and monitor and track needed follow-up and referral outcomes.
9. Develop Family Partnership Agreements with families to assist them in identifying strengths, setting goals and addressing family concerns.
10. Maintain up to date family records in a confidential manner.
11. Work in partnership with parents and staff in planning and implementing center activities and parent enrichment activities.
12. Complete reports and maintain required documentation of services provided.
13. Provide support and guidance to Policy Council members and at meetings if applicable.
14. Enter data into Promis database.
15. Participate in supervision, meetings, and professional trainings as required.
16. Ensure Performance Standards are met

1. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience:
1. AA degree in Social or Human Services or other related field.
2. Knowledge of local community resources and experience with referring to community resources.
3. Two years experience (paid or volunteer) working with low income families.
4. Experience working with families from diverse cultures and ethnic backgrounds.
Required Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities:
1. Good human relations and interpersonal skills.
2. Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.
3. Availability to greet parents at the beginning and ending of class time at centers.
4. Experience working as a team in providing services.
5. Parenting education and group facilitation skills.
6. Knowledge of needs of families with preschool age children.
7. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
8. Availability of reliable transportation.
Required Licenses and/or Certifications:
1. Washington State driver’s license
