Lead Teacher, Givens Head Start
at Olympic ESD 114 in Port Orchard, WA
Job Summary:
Plan and implement Head Start/ECEAP child development services in partnership and coordination with the site Direct Services Team and families, promoting positive relationships at all times. Supervise Assistant Teacher and volunteers in the classroom.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Plan a developmentally appropriate early childhood curriculum that integrates all aspects of program priorities, incorporates best developmentally appropriate practices, and assures an optimum learning environment for young children.
2. Establish and maintain an effective system of involving parents in developing children’s individual learning goals, preparing curriculum plans, documenting and recording children’s learning, and measuring child outcomes.
3. Ensure program Performance Standards and developmentally appropriate practices, program goals, and program priorities are met.
4. Work in partnership with parents and staff in planning and implementing child and family activities in the program.
5. Train, supervise and support assistants and classroom volunteers.
6. Perform developmental screening and maintain a healthy, safe and developmentally appropriate program.
7. Provide opportunities for parents to learn about the growth and development of their children, including ways to increase connections between school and home.
8. Participate in center team meetings, family staffing, IEP meetings, multi-disciplinary team meetings, parent meetings, and other parent center activities.
9. Collaborate with school district staff to support children with special needs.
10. Attend all required trainings.
11. Plan and participate in home visits and parent conferences.
12. Support parent involvement in the classroom and other educational opportunities for parents.
13. Work as part of a Direct Service Team that empowers families in meeting family and child goals.
14. Maintain all required documentation including classroom records, daily meal counts, attendance records & USDA worksheets.
15. Write a monthly parent newsletter.
16. Maintain, purchase and request equipment and supplies.
17. Assist in maintaining the facility to meet state licensing standards.

1. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development or related field and a minimum of one year experience working in a pre-school or kindergarten. Two years experience required for ECEAP positions.
--OR—
Associate’s Degree (or equivalent) with emphasis in Early Childhood Education or related field and a minimum of two years experience working in a pre-school or kindergarten.
--OR—
Current CDA and evidence of working on Associate’s Degree with emphasis in early childhood education
(or equivalent) to be completed within three years and a minimum of two/three years experience working in a preschool or kindergarten.
2. Experience working with low-income families, diverse cultures and ethnic backgrounds.
3. Experience working with children with disabilities is preferred.
4. Prior Head Start/ECEAP experience or former Head Start/ECEAP parent, preferred.

Required Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities:
1. Positive human relations and interpersonal skills.
2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
3. Basic knowledge of computer use.
4. Familiarity with community resources preferred.
5. Ability to maintain program confidentiality policies.
6. Ability to work occasional evenings.
7. Ability to travel; reliable transportation.
8. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
