Head Start/ECEAP Lead Teacher/Advocate
at Olympic Educational Service District 114 in Kitsap County, WA
Job Summary:
Plan and implement preschool curriculum and family related activities and programming, emphasizing social services to families and parent activities.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Plan and deliver a developmentally appropriate early childhood curriculum in the preschool classrooms that integrates all aspects of program priorities, incorporates best developmentally appropriate practices, and assures an optimum learning environment for young children.
2. Recruit, enroll and orient ECEAP and or Head Start families at assigned sites or site and assist as needed in the overall program.
3. Work in partnership with parents and staff in planning and implementing children, center and parent enrichment activities.
4. Collaborate with school district staff to support children with special needs.
5. Supervise, train and support assistants and classroom volunteers.
6. Perform developmental screenings and maintain a healthy, safe and developmentally appropriate program.
7. Encourage, support and provide opportunities for parent involvement and leadership in the classroom and community.
8. Develop Family Partnership Agreements with families to assist them in identifying strengths, setting goals and addressing family concerns.
9. Provide parents with information regarding educational opportunities and social service resources.
10. Work as part of a Direct Service Team to respond to families' emergent needs.
11. Plan and participate in home visits and parent conferences.
12. Provide referrals to appropriate community resources; monitor and track needed follow-up, referral outcomes.
13. Work with Health Nutrition Advocate to evaluate family and child health information and work with families to ensure children obtain needed immunizations, screenings, exams and needed follow-up.
14. Develop a plan with parents and staff for classroom care of children with special health care needs.
15. Participate in center team meetings, family staffings, IEP meetings, and multi-disciplinary team meetings.
16. Complete required reports and maintain all required documentation of services provided.
17. Ensure program Performance Standards, developmentally appropriate practices, program goals and program priorities are met.
18. Attend all required trainings.
19. Write a monthly parent newsletter.
20. Maintain, purchase and request equipment and supplies.
Other Job Functions:
1. Participate in supervision, meetings, trainings and community activities as required.
2. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience:
1. AA degree or higher with the equivalent of 30 college quarter credits in early childhood education.
(These 30 credits may be included in the degree or in addition to the degree.)
OR
A valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in Early Childhood Education (Pre-K-Grade 3)
Early Childhood Special Education
OR
A current CDA and evidence of working on Associate’s Degree with emphasis in Early Childhood Education (or equivalent) to be completed within three years and a minimum of two years working in a preschool setting.
2. Experience working with families in a Human Services related position preferred
3. Two years experience working in a pre-school or kindergarten.
4. Two years experience (paid or volunteer) working with low income families.
5. Knowledge of local community resources and experience with referring to community resources.
6. Experience working with families from diverse cultures, and ethnic backgrounds.
7. Experience working as a team in providing services.
8. Experience working with children with disabilities preferred.
9. Prior Head Start/ECEAP experience or former Head Start/ECEAP parent preferred.
10. Supervisory and/or adult education experience preferred.
Required Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities:
1. Must have good human relations, public relations and interpersonal skills.
2. Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.
3. Computer skills.
4. Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
5. Ability to travel; reliable transportation; valid Washington driver's license or ability to secure one.
6. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
