Assistant Teacher, ECEAP
at Olympic Educational Service District 114 in Kitsap County, WA
Job Summary:
Assist in planning and implementing the preschool curriculum and family related activities.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Assist lead teacher in working in partnership with parents and staff in planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate early childhood curriculum that assures an optimum learning environment for young children.
2. Assist lead teacher in establishing and maintaining an effective system of involving parents to support the individual learning of each child.
3. Assist lead teacher in ensuring program Performance Standards and developmentally appropriate practices, program goals and program priorities are met.
4. Assist lead teachers in working in partnership with parents to plan and implement child and family activities in the program.
5. Assist in preparing food.
6. Assist in performing developmental screenings and maintaining a healthy, safe and developmentally appropriate program.
7. Serve as a role model for volunteers.
8. Assist in providing opportunities for parents to learn about the growth and development of their children.
9. Participate in family staffings, Direct Service Team site meetings, parent meetings and all other parent center activities.
10. Participate in in-services and trainings as required.
11. Participate in home visits and parent conferences.
12. Support parent involvement in the classroom and all other educational opportunities.
13. Work as a part of a Direct Service Team that assists families in meeting their goals.
14. Assist in maintaining all required documentation including classroom records and attendance records.
15. Assist in the maintenance of equipment and purchasing of supplies.
Other Job Functions:
1. Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience:
1. High School Diploma or GED.
2. Equivalent of 12 college quarter credits in Early Childhood or current Child Dev. Associate (CDA) awarded by the council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition.
3. One year experience working with preschool children in a group setting.
4. Experience working with low-income families, diverse cultures, and ethnic backgrounds preferred.
5. Prior Head Start/ECEAP experience or former Head Start/ECEAP parent preferred.
Required Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities:
1. Must have good human relations and interpersonal skills.
2. Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
3. Computer skills or willingness to learn.
4. Ability to follow instructions.
5. Ability to work as a team member.
6. Ability to maintain confidentiality in adherence to program policies.
7. Ability to work occasional evenings.
8. Ability to travel; reliable transportation.
9. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following conditions:
• Significant: none
• Frequent: standing, walking, talking, hearing, vision, kneeling, squatting, crawling, lifting up to 10 pounds, color vision, peripheral/depth perception, ability to adjust focus, exposure to blood/bodily fluids, moderate noise levels
• Occasional: sitting, driving, handling paperwork, climbing, reaching above the shoulder, lifting up to 50 pounds, carrying, pushing/pulling, repetitive motion, use of personal computer/fax machine/calculator/phone/vacuum cleaner, looking at computer monitor, exposure to toxic chemicals/moving parts/fumes, very quiet noise levels
