Washington Association for the Education of Young Children (WAEYC) is seeking an innovative, experienced, and hard working professional to fill the position of Programs Manager. WAEYC is a non-profit statewide membership organization for early learning professionals. We are the Washington state affiliate of NAEYC, the nation’s largest organization dedicated to improving the quality and accessibility of early learning programs for children birth through eight years old. WAEYC is comprised of over 1600 members in local affiliate chapters throughout the state. We provide services to members and advocate for policies that enable individuals and businesses to provide high-quality early learning experiences for young children.

Early learning professionals and the field continue to face difficult challenges. Since WAEYC is committed to consistently and boldly supporting quality early learning, we spent time looking at how our services support early learning professionals in the current environment. And we focused on advancing, renewing and strengthening leadership among Washington early learning professionals. We are strengthening our services, making some structural and staffing changes, and inspiring and solidifying key alliances with our organizational partners.

Position Purpose
The Programs Manager contributes to the overall success of the organization by providing the leadership, management and supervision necessary for the development and implementation of the association’s programs. WAEYC’s programs include professional development/supporting professionalism; community and member connections; and quality improvement and advocacy. This position reports to the Executive Director and is part of the management team.

Major Functions
• Program Development and Evaluation: Design, direct, and implement association programs for members and other early childhood professionals which promote quality, support professionalism and facilitate member connections. Develop and implement plan for evaluating effectiveness of association programs from perspective of customers, key partners, funders and association finances.
• Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor specific contracts and grants. Develop, monitor and submit program plans, budgets and outcome reports to association board and program funders. Assist with the development of applications for new and existing funding.
• Event Planning: Provide vision for and oversee planning and implementation of association’s annual conference and other professional development events.
• Quality Promotion: Gather, promote and disseminate information about early learning research, best practices, and quality improvement initiatives including but not limited to NAEYC accreditation. Other duties as assigned

Performance Expectations (How this job should be approached)
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal/communication skills, effective high level networking and long term relationship-building skills with volunteers, diverse stakeholders, partners and policy makers
• Exhibit advanced verbal and written communications skills including ability to write papers and reports and present effectively to small and large groups
• Display knowledge of outcomes-based program evaluation to provide accountability and improve program quality, and support decision-making about resource allocation
• Demonstrate ability to identify realistic, relevant and appropriate program outcomes, and gather and analyze data
• Demonstrate organizational skills sufficient to effectively organize, direct and publicize a wide variety of training and other professional development events including webinars, online training, one day training events, and a multiple day conference with over 1000 attendees
• Display strong technology skills including use of basic computer software programs, social media, and webinar software
• Demonstrate basic knowledge of current research and best practices in early childhood education; early learning and K-12 issues, trends and systems; and adult learning theory
• Demonstrate a high level of motivation and energy, and an independent work style

Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelors degree (preferred in early childhood education or related field)
• 3 years successful experience in program development and implementation or events coordination

Other Requirements
• Valid driver’s license, current vehicle insurance and access to a reliable vehicle
• Washington State Patrol background check and fingerprinting

Working Conditions & Equipment Used
• Works in an office in Kent with administrative staff
• Travels to meetings
• Occasionally works on weekends and evenings
• Uses computer, telephone, fax, copier and postal meter

Hours, Pay and Benefits
• Full-time exempt position
• Salary $48,000/year
