Early Head Start Coordinator Assistant - Discovery & Givens

Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Early Head Start Coordinator, oversee and support day to day Early Head Start child care services ensuring Head Start standards and child care licensing requirements are met at both Discovery and Givens. Monitor the Family Services section of the files at all Early Head Start sites. This position oversees all portions of the Early Head Start program at Discovery and Givens, child development, family services and health services. Work in partnership with classroom staff to coordinate activities for the site.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Oversee the planning, development and implementation of the child development services of Early Head Start direct services teams which includes the Holly Ridge Staff and South Kitsap school district staff.
2. Ensure Head Start Performance Standards, developmentally appropriate practices, program goals and priorities for full-day services are met.
3. Ensure that an effective system of involving parents in developing children's individual learning goals, planning curriculum, collecting evidence and recording children's development and learning.
4. Ensure that staff partner with parents in identifying opportunities to learn about the growth and development of their children and develop (Givens) or support (Discovery) a Family Partnership Agreement based on parent’s personal goals.
5. Ensure that staff monitor, track and develop health services, plans and outcomes for their primary children.
6. Provide Home Visits and group socializations during the summer at Discovery meeting all performance standards that govern home visiting to families.
7. Oversee and maintain a learning environment that promotes staff engaging in one-on-one relationships with children, assures consistent caregiving and nurtures the individual strengths and learning needs of children in full-day child care.
8. Collaborate with school district and Holly Ridge staff to place and support children with special needs.
9. Supervise, train and support Early Head Start Lead Teachers, Lead Teacher/Advocates and ensure that they appropriately supervise Assistant Teachers, classroom assistants and volunteers.
10. Schedule Early Head Start staff and allow time for planning, record keeping and home visiting.
11. Work in partnership with classroom staff to plan and implement family activities (family gatherings) and site decisions (classroom planning committee).
12. Work in partnership with staff to plan and facilitate direct service team activities that involve all staff. Assure positive and open communication.
13. Work with Early Head Start staff to ensure a welcoming environment for children and families. Communicate with parents on a daily basis.
14. Work with ESD and SKSD to purchase and maintain supplies and equipment for site.
15. Assure that all DSHS child care subsidy billing is done in collaboration with ESD Secretary, SKSD secretary and Internal Accountant.
16. Assist in maintaining the facilities to meet state child care licensing standards.
Other Job Functions:
1. Perform other duties as assigned.
2. Participate in meetings and trainings as assigned.
3. Complete and maintain required reports and records.
4. Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience:
1. Associate’s Degree with emphasis in early childhood education (or equivalent) and a minimum of two years experience working in a prenatal infant toddler program. --OR—
Bachelors degree in Early Childhood or Child Development or related field and a minimum one year experience working in a prenatal, infant and toddler program. –OR—
CDA and evidence of working on Associate’s Degree with early childhood education (or equivalent) to be completed within three years.
2. One-year experience training adults using appropriate learning principles preferred.
3. Experience working with infants and toddlers and people with disabilities is preferred.
4. Prior Head Start/ECEAP experience or former Head Start/ECEAP parent preferred.
5. Experience working with low income families, diverse cultures and ethnic backgrounds.
6. Experience in Full day care for children preferred.
Required Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities:
1. Knowledge of Infant/Toddler developmentally appropriate curriculum and best practices.
2. Knowledge of child development principles.
3. Experience working in groups of children in multi-age settings.
4. Positive human relations and interpersonal skills.
5. Excellent written communication skills.
6. Ability to work effectively and positively with staff, parents and community partners.
7. Ability to travel; reliable transportation.
8. Ability to lift infants and toddlers.
Required Licenses and/or Certifications:
1. CPR/First Aid and Food Handlers Certificate or ability to obtain prior to working with children on site.
Working Environment:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following conditions:
• Significant: talking, hearing, vision
• Frequent: standing, walking, sitting, handling paperwork, carrying, pushing/pulling, repetitive motion, use of personal computer/ phone, looking at computer monitor, color vision, peripheral/depth perception, ability to adjust focus, moderate noise levels
• Occasional: driving, climbing, kneeling, squatting, crawling, reaching above the shoulder, lifting up to 50 pounds, use of fax machine/calculator/lawn mower/vacuum cleaner, exposure to blood/bodily fluids/toxic chemicals/moving parts/fumes, electrical shock risk, very quiet to loud noise levels
