full time FOOD POLICY ASSOCIATE

This is a full time position at the Children's Alliance. The Food Policy Associate position supports the work of the Children’s Alliance Senior Food Policy Coordinator, and Communications and Mobilization Teams to implement the ten-year plan to end childhood hunger in Washington. The position combines public policy analysis, research, and advocacy with coordinating and participating in specific work groups focused on individual goals in the ten-year plan.

The position is based in the Seattle office and funding is available for at least one year. Ability to travel and work a flexible schedule is required. This position reports to the Children’s Alliance Senior Food Policy Coordinator and is a member of the organization’s policy staff. Salary is $42,000/ year. Health and dental benefits are included. Major Responsibilities:
• Assist in staffing and coordination of the activities and strategies for various work groups of anti-hunger and nutrition advocates and state agency representatives working on implementing the plan to end childhood hunger in Washington.
• Assist the Senior Food Policy Coordinator, Communications and Mobilization Teams in developing and implementing communications and mobilization strategies.
• Support the Senior Food Policy Coordinator in staffing Western Region Anti-Hunger Consortium, including meeting logistics, agenda development, communication and follow-up.
• Assist in fulfilling reporting requirements to project funders.
• Maintain effective partnerships with public and private sector partners.
• Assist in developing and facilitating electronic communication with issue-specific interest groups in support of project goals.
• Assist with Children’s Alliance resource development efforts.

Required qualifications
• One to two years experience in anti-hunger and food policy or a closely related policy area
• Commitment to diversity and equitable outcomes for low income children and children of color.
• One to two years experience providing support for staffing of coalitions and workgroups, including meeting coordination and administrative support
• Excellent oral and written communications skills
• Excellent relationship skills and teamwork

Preferred qualifications
• Project management experience
• Strategic communications experience
• Bachelor Degree or three years of experience
