at Alliance for Education in Seattle

The President & CEO of the Alliance for Education leads a dynamic and infl uential non-profi t organization guided by a 40-member board of directors comprised of business, education and civic leaders. The President & CEO plays a key role in advancing a vision of quality public schools and in building community support for the K-12 education system. S/He works in close partnership with the superintendent, School Board and other leaders in Seattle Public Schools and provides direction and support to a 12-member staff of multitalented professionals.

Primary responsibilities include:
• Leadership. Works in concert with the Board, provides strategic vision and leadership in fulfi llment of the Alliance’s mission.
• Governance. Supports a 40-member Board of Directors and its offi cers in executing its governance responsibilities.
• Planning. Supports the board in developing the Alliance’s strategic plan and recommends to the board an annual work plan and budget to support its implementation. Reports regularly to the Board on
assessment of strategic direction, progress against benchmarks, and outcomes achieved.


ISSUES & PRIORITIES
• Operations. Oversees and is held accountable for the implementation of plans and budgets. Facilitates
the work of the management team and provides guidance and expectations regarding results.
• Advocacy. Keeps the board and other stakeholders informed about promising “best practices” and
education reform strategies that are increasing student achievement.
• Diversity. Brings an awareness and commitment to diversity to effectively build relationships with varied communities and organizations.
• Development. Provides leadership and general direction to the organization’s fundraising and resource
development functions. Meets with prospective and current donors to build and maintain support for the Alliance and networks with leaders in the foundation and philanthropic community to identify new opportunities for support.
• Communications. Serves as the primary spokesperson for the Alliance with the media, the school district and the community-at-large. Guides the development of key messages and utilizes various
communications mediums to advance the Alliance’s agenda and strategic goals.
• Financial Management. Responsible for ensuring the fi scal integrity of the organization and the achievement of fi nancial goals. Oversees plan/budget and strategic investments of philanthropic
resources to achieve desired results.
• School District Partnership. Works closely with the superintendent, district administrators and elected trustees to build a productive, collaborative partnership to identify shared goals and expectations,
seeking to align the Alliance and the school district priorities.
• External Relations. Develops alliances with other educational, non-profit and government entities committed to quality public schools in Seattle and represents the Alliance with various community
leadership groups.
